Entrepreneur Development Scheme – Jankalyan Kendra (BY GNF)

The main objective of the Entrepreneur Development Scheme – Jankalyan Kendra, run by the Gulzarilal Nanda Foundation, is to enable economically weaker sections of society to move toward self-employment and self-reliance. Under this scheme, youth, women and unemployed citizens in rural and urban areas are introduced to the basic concepts of business.

At the Jankalyan Kendra, participants are trained in the process of starting a business, planning, market study, cost–benefit analysis and risk management. They are also given information about various government schemes, grants, loan facilities and self-employment programmes. This effort of GNF is not limited to livelihood alone, but works to bring lasting socio-economic change by developing an entrepreneurial mindset in society.

2Use of organic manure in the field

Cattle-Wealth-Based Products through the Janvikas Kendra

GNF’s Janvikas Kendra focuses on the manufacture and marketing of cattle-wealth-based products to strengthen the rural economy. Under this project, organic manure, incense sticks (dhoop–agarbatti), lamps, paint and other useful products are made from cow dung.

On one hand, this initiative promotes cow service and environmental protection; on the other, it provides rural women and farmers with an additional source of income. Cattle-wealth products serve as a natural alternative to chemical fertilisers, increase soil fertility and encourage sustainable agriculture. Through this project, GNF is realising the concept of local resources–local employment.

Business Entrepreneurship and Skill Training Programme

In a rapidly changing economic landscape, skill development has become extremely necessary. Keeping this need in mind, GNF conducts business entrepreneurship and skill training programmes. In these programmes, youth are taught technical, managerial and digital skills.

Under the training, practical guidance is given on subjects such as computer knowledge, digital marketing, e-commerce, accounting, customer handling, packaging and branding. GNF’s aim is to ensure that trained youth do not merely become job seekers, but also become entrepreneurs who provide jobs.

4Rural women working near a water source

Water Conservation and Village Enterprises with Associate Organisations

Water conservation has become the greatest need of our times. With the support of its associate organisations, GNF is continuously striving for water conservation and the development of village-based enterprises. Under this project, training is organised on rainwater harvesting, revival of water sources, water awareness campaigns and water management.

In addition, village enterprises related to water conservation, such as water tank construction, filtration systems and irrigation solutions, are promoted. This makes it possible to create employment in rural areas while also addressing the water crisis.

5Community gardening activity

Employment Project Based on Terrace Gardens and Medicinal Plants

This GNF project promotes livelihood creation through terrace gardening and the cultivation of medicinal plants. In urban and semi-urban areas, people are given new income opportunities by growing medicinal plants on rooftops, balconies and vacant spaces.

Under this project, training is given in the cultivation, care and marketing of plants such as Tulsi, Giloy, Aloe vera and Ashwagandha. This initiative is beneficial not only for health and the environment, but also presents a low-cost self-employment model for youth and women.

Initiative to Connect Skilled Youth with New Opportunities

One of GNF’s key objectives is to identify the skilled and talented youth of society and connect them with the right opportunities. Through this initiative, youth are connected with training, guidance, internships, start-up support and employment.

GNF believes that if youth get the right direction, platform and support, they can bring positive change not only for themselves but also for society. This project is an important step toward making youth confident, capable and socially responsible citizens.
